Ask a Librarian
Academic Honesty is an important issue. The librarians at Nutting Memorial are here to help you as you research for your projects, including properly crediting your sources. Please use this guide to help understand the proper formats for citing sources and creating your bibiographies. Contact us by chat, text message, phone, email or stop by the library to let us know how we can help you.
Why Cite?
As a student you are learning to understand the meaning of a text, but also the ability to say it in your own words. Paraphrasing (writing in your own words) and Citing (quoting others' words and attributing it to the author) are important skills help you to avoid plagiarism. Here are some resources to assist with these skills:
- Principles of Paraphrasing - Harvard Graduate School of Education (how and why we cite and paraphrase sources)
- Avoiding Plagiarism - Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) overview
- How to Paraphrase - Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL)
